Rare pair of dried Eidelweiss flowers brought back from WWII by Sargent Jack A Chisnall of the Reconnaissance Corps who saw action throughout France, Belgium and Holland - the Eidelweiss was worn in the tunics of some Alpine regiments (Gebirgsjager) and German paratroopers etc when they went into battle after having specifically climbed high into the mountains to specifically pick them. The Eidelweiss traditionally denotes honour and bravery within Germanic folklore. Alied soldier often took them from the lapels of dead Germans as ”war trophies” - we believe these are a rare remaining example of this practice.
