FACTORY RECORDS: MIS‑CASED HAPPY MONDAYS COMPILATION CASE + “ZULU” INTERNAL STUDIO VHS A rare Factory Records production artefact comprising a Happy Mondays compilation master case and an internal studio VHS tape labelled “Zulu”, likely representing an unreleased or rough‑cut production element from the Factory video workflow. Outer Case Factory Records – Happy Mondays Compilation VHS – 625 Line PAL Duration: 16 minutes Signal Vision, Knutsford, Cheshire (Factory’s duplication and production facility) Inner Tape A Baird E‑180 VHS with: a handwritten pencil label: “Zulu” a fallen-off printed label also reading: “Zulu” The mismatch between case and tape is typical of Factory’s chaotic production workflow, where cases were frequently reused. The “Zulu” tape is almost certainly an internal working copy, potentially containing: a rough cut a promo segment an edit sequence an unused video element or unreleased Factory-era footage Significance Internal studio tapes with handwritten labels are exceptionally scarce and often contain material not present in commercial releases. The presence of a Factory compilation case strengthens provenance and situates the tape firmly within Factory’s production chain. Provenance Acquired directly from kathy Skelly, partner of Mark Simmons, who handled Factory Records video production assets.
