Attributed to MM (20th Century), A Pair of Egyptian Papyrus Paintings including 'The Final Judgment' (Signed) - A pair of contemporary hand-painted artworks on natural papyrus, depicting scenes from ancient Egyptian mythology in a revivalist style. The larger horizontal composition depicts 'The Final Judgment' or the 'Weighing of the Heart' ceremony from the Book of the Dead. The scene shows the jackal-headed god Anubis leading the deceased towards the scales of Maat, while the ibis-headed Thoth records the verdict and the enthroned Osiris presides at the right, flanked by Isis and Nephthys. The second, smaller work features two seated deities, likely Ra-Horakhty and a goddess, positioned on an ornate platform. Both artworks are executed on natural papyrus with characteristic deckled edges and utilise a palette of vibrant colours highlighted with gold-tone accents. The larger work is signed and dated 'MM [script] 1992' in the lower right, alongside Arabic characters. The smaller work is signed 'MM [script]' with Arabic characters in the lower left. A printed descriptive label titled 'THE FINAL JUDGMENT' is affixed to the reverse of the larger frame, providing a narrative summary of the scene depicted. Both pieces are housed in matching gilt-finished frames under glass, with the larger work featuring a deep green mount and the smaller a light grey mount.
