Bidspirit auction | A Trio of Victorian Personal
A Trio of Victorian Personal Items Including a Hallmarked Sterling Silver Folding Comb by Levi and Salaman - A trio of personal items comprising a sterling silver-cased folding pocket comb, a silver coin, and a metal identification tag. The folding comb features a protective sleeve of sterling silver, elaborately decorated with an embossed pattern of foliate and floral scrolls. A central cartouche is engraved with an entwined script monogram, possibly SB. The upper edge of the silver sleeve is struck with a clear set of English hallmarks: the maker mark L and S for Levi and Salaman, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter g for 1906. The internal comb is made of a cream-coloured material, likely early celluloid, and is hinged to rotate into the silver sleeve. The collection also contains a silver coin featuring the Young Head profile portrait of Queen Victoria. The final item is an oval white-metal identification tag with a single suspension hole, hand-engraved in cursive script with the name John Bone Garner.
