A Victorian Oak Cased Bracket Clock with Brass Mounts and Presentation Plaque Dated 1892 - A late Victorian oak-cased bracket clock of architectural design. The case is constructed from oak with a stepped pediment and features brass lion-mask side handles and four cast brass scroll-form feet. The rear features a hinged wooden door with a fabric-lined interior panel. The square brass dial has a silvered chapter ring with black Roman numeral hour markers and an outer track with Arabic numerals for five-minute intervals. The centre of the dial has a matted brass finish, and the corners are decorated with four cast brass spandrels depicting winged cherub heads. It features two pierced steel hands. The mechanical eight-day spring-driven movement has twin winding holes and strikes on two internal coiled metal gongs. An engraved brass presentation plaque is mounted to the base of the front case and reads: PRESENTED TO MR C. THWAITES JR / BY THE MEMBERS OF THE / DURHAM CITY AND DISTRICT CANINE CLUB / AS A MARK OF RECOGNITION FOR HIS VALUABLE SERVICES / AS HON: SECRETARY. July 1892. No maker's mark is visible on the dial or the movement backplate.
