A set of five Villeroy and Boch Design Naïf series vitreous porcelain decorative plates - This set of five circular vitreous porcelain plates was produced by the Luxembourg factory of Villeroy and Boch. The plates feature colourful transfer-printed illustrations in the folk art style by French artist Gérard Laplau. Four plates comprise the complete Les Quatre Saisons (The Four Seasons) series, depicting seasonal rural activities: No. 1 Printemps (Spring), No. 2 Été (Summer), No. 3 Automne (Autumn), and No. 4 Hiver (Winter). The fifth plate depicts a domestic interior scene with figures and animals before a large hearth. Each plate features a recessed centre and a narrow rim accented with two concentric black lines. The name LAPLAU is printed within the artwork on the front of each plate. The reverse of the Four Seasons plates bears a printed text mark in French, English, and German, identifying the artist and series, including the line This unique piece is one of a series of four collection plates painted exclusively by the French artist Gérard Laplau, Paris for Villeroy and Boch. This is accompanied by the company name Villeroy and Boch, ANNO 1748, and Luxembourg. The fifth plate is marked to the reverse with a printed stamp reading Villeroy and Boch, ANNO 1748, Design Naïf, Luxembourg. Four of the plates retain wire spring-loaded wall hangers attached to the reverse. A small white rectangular adhesive label reading 2257 is attached to the face of the Autumn plate.
