Steiff Classic 1912 Black Mohair Teddy Bear Replica Model 039997 c 17 cm seated - A German-made jointed teddy bear produced by Steiff, identified as model number 039997. This piece is a replica of the classic 1912 design, historically associated with mourning bears. The covering is composed of 55 per cent black mohair and 45 per cent cotton, filled with acrylic fibre. The bear features five-way manual jointing at the neck, shoulders, and hips. The facial features include hand-stitched details to the nose and mouth, and black eyes set against distinctive red surrounds. The paw pads are constructed from light brown felt. Several original identifying marks are present. A circular white cardboard chest tag features the Steiff script logo in red above the word Original and Teddybär 1912, with Giengen and Germany printed in an arc at the top. A yellow fabric ear tag is secured by a brass button; the front is printed in red with Germany by, the Steiff script logo, and the word MOHR. The reverse of the ear tag displays the number 039997 printed vertically in red, with inverted text reading Classic and Teddy partially visible. A rectangular white paper swing tag is attached to the leg, providing the model number 039997, the designation Classic 1912 Teddyb. 22, and the colour Moh. schwarz.
