Bidspirit auction | A Trio of Framed Needlepoint
A Trio of Framed Needlepoint Embroideries including a Millennium 2000 Commemorative Sampler - A collection of three framed needlepoint works executed in wool or cotton thread on canvas. The group includes a large vertical portrait of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, worked in a palette of blue, gold, and terracotta tones. The portrait is set within a decorative border featuring stylised palm trees and geometric motifs, presented in a dark-painted wooden frame. The second large piece is a commemorative sampler titled Millennium 2000 in the central panel. The design features a central compass-rose motif surrounded by multiple vignettes and text panels celebrating British historical events and figures. Legible text includes 1066 Battle of Hastings, 1215 Magna Carta, 1564-1616 William Shakespeare, 1665 Isaac Newton Law of Gravity, 1768-1779 Captain J Cook, and 1815 Wellington. Additional names recorded in the needlework include Tennyson, Churchill, Wilberforce, Elgar, and Drake. The work is housed in a wood-effect frame with a gold-tone inner slip. The third work is a smaller landscape-oriented needlepoint depicting a steamship at a dock, possibly the RMS Queen Mary, with figures gathered in the foreground. It is presented in a dark wood frame.
