Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Old Moravian
A Pair of Old Moravian Pottery Hand Painted Earthenware Vases - A pair of twin-handled earthenware vases featuring a Secessionist aesthetic. Each vase is formed with an ovoid body, a tall cylindrical neck, and a flared rim. The handles are highly stylised, with open loops at the rim and square-angled supports at the shoulder. The exterior is finished in a dark cobalt blue glaze, decorated with a hand-painted floral motif in a slip-trailed style. The design depicts flowers in yellow, ochre, and earthy red tones with green foliage. The interiors are finished in a contrasting reddish-brown glaze. The base of one vase bears hand-painted marks in brown pigment. The script is legible and reads Old Moravian Pottery, Made in Austria. There is also a small, hand-painted numeral 6 or letter G in dark blue pigment (photo 2).
