Bidspirit auction | A Trio of Gilt Framed

A Trio of Gilt Framed Watercolors Including Maritime Scenes and a Rural Cottage - A collection of three framed works on paper. The primary vertical work is a watercolor and gouache painting depicting a three-masted clipper ship under full sail on a turbulent sea. A smaller vessel is visible in the distance under a clouded sky. A signature is present in the lower left corner, but the characters are not legible as a name. The work is housed in a wide wooden frame with a textured gilt finish. To the left is a horizontal watercolor showing a rural scene with a thatched-roof cottage, floral gardens, and two figures on a path. It is presented behind a dark blue mount in a decorative gold-toned frame. No signature is visible on this piece. To the right is a smaller vertical watercolor depicting a Spanish galleon-style ship. A line of hand-painted text across the bottom of the image area reads EL CANO VELERO REAL DE ESPAÑA. The work is set within a simple gilt frame. The painting techniques across the trio are representational and illustrative, typical of mid-20th-century British decorative art styles.
