Bidspirit auction | Hart Modernist Watercolour Landscape Study

Hart Modernist Watercolour Landscape Study of Rocks - A modernist watercolour landscape study on paper, depicting a cubist-influenced arrangement of rock formations and boulders. The work is executed in transparent watercolour washes with visible layering and hard-edged colour blocks in a palette of ochre, sienna, burnt umber, and cool greys. The composition emphasizes the geometric and fractured qualities of the stone surfaces, characteristic of mid-20th-century British Neo-Romanticism. The work is signed in the lower right corner with a hand-painted signature in uppercase block script reading HART. The artwork is presented in a double-ruled cream mount and housed within a slim, dark-stained wooden frame featuring a gilded inner lip.
