Bidspirit auction | A Sterling Silver Ladle by
A Sterling Silver Ladle by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co Ltd and a Partial Fruit Service - An assortment of silver and silver-plated flatware. The collection includes a sterling silver ladle featuring a rounded bowl and a tapering fiddle-pattern handle. The stem of the ladle is struck with four individual hallmarks (photo 2): a serifed letter E in a shaped shield; a lion passant; an anchor; and the letters G&S positioned above the number 3. These marks identify the piece as Birmingham sterling silver manufactured by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd. Accompanying the ladle is a partial Victorian-style dessert or fruit service. This group comprises several items with decorative silver-plated blades and tines, each featuring engraved scrolling foliate and floral motifs. These pieces are fitted with handles fashioned from a cream-coloured carved material designed to resemble naturalistic knotted wood or bamboo. The handles are joined to the silver-plated elements with ornate embossed ferrules and are capped with spherical pommels. Also included is a plain silver-toned teaspoon with a pointed heel. A rectangular white adhesive paper tag is present, bearing the handwritten inscription 35.23gm. Weight: 35.23 g (as indicated on the tag).
