Bidspirit auction | Two Pieces of Middle Eastern
Two Pieces of Middle Eastern and Indo-Persian Mixed Metalware Including a Large Ewer and Lidded Chalice - This lot comprises two decorative metalware items: a tall ewer and a lidded footed cup. The ewer, of aftaba form, is constructed from a mixed metal alloy with a copper-toned finish. It features a high arched handle and a long, curved spout. The body is decorated with hand-chased and repoussé panels, including teardrop-shaped medallions containing figurative aquatic motifs such as fish. The neck and flared foot are embellished with repeating bands of foliate and geometric patterns. The lidded chalice or goblet is composed of a white metal alloy, likely tinned copper, featuring dense chased floral and foliate decoration throughout in the North Indian style. Recessed areas of the decoration are dark-patinated to provide visual contrast. The domed lid is topped with a small figurative finial depicting a standing person. No maker's marks, signatures, or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the exterior of either piece.
