Travel Poster Carnaval de Binche Mardi Gras Belgium - Original antique poster for the Carnaval de Binche Mardi Gras created by the renowned Belgian artist Louis Buisseret (1888-1956). A masterpiece of late Art Nouveau design, the composition is centred on a magnificent Gille, the festival's most iconic figure, dressed in the spectacular, towering ostrich feather headdress and holding a symbolic orange, an emblem of the town's generosity. The artwork is rich with local symbolism, featuring the Binche coat of arms, intricate patterns of the Belgian lion, and a depiction of the town’s Gothic city hall in the lower-right corner. The decorative, stylised typography frames the scene, announcing the day’s main events: the Rondeau des Gilles and the luminous Cortege aux Lumieres. The historic Carnival of Binche is a UNESCO-recognised Belgian festival held annually during the three days preceding Ash Wednesday. It is best known for the Gilles, performers in national-colored costumes who parade through the streets throwing oranges at the crowd. Printed Editions Est-Ouest, Brussels. Good condition, folds, creasing, small tears. Country of issue: Belgium, designer: Louis Buisseret, size (cm): 99x60, year of printing: 1910.
