Advertising Poster Paris International Exposition Jean Fouquet - Original vintage French exhibition advertising poster published to promote the Paris International Exposition / Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne held in 1937. The poster features a famous 15th-century masterpieceVirgin and Child Surrounded by Angels (the right wing of the famous 15th-century Melun Diptych) painted by Jean Fouquet between 1452 and 1458. Depicting the Madonna wearing an elaborate jewel-encrusted crown and a white ermine-lined cloak parted to reveal her breast as she nurses the infant Christ, framed by sculptural red seraphim and blue cherubim. This exhibition was culturally and historically monumental because it briefly reunited the long-separated halves of the Melun Diptych: The Left Wing (depicting the patron Étienne Chevalier and Saint Stephen) was housed in Berlin. The Right Wing (shown on this poster) belonged to Antwerp. The two pieces were permanently broken apart in 1773. The 1937 Paris exhibition was the last time they were physically brought together in the 20th century before finally being reunited temporarily again 80 years later in 2017. Fair condition, creasing, large tears through image, staining. Country of issue: France, designer: Jean Fouquet, size (cm): 80x70, year of printing: 1937.
