ANTIQUE AFRICAN WOODEN HEDDLE PULLEY WITH FIGURE
An antique 19-20th century African hand-carved wooden heddle pulley decorated with a human head symbolizing an idol. The item is mounted on a metal base. There are painted identification numbers on the inner side of the figure. Label of the Museum of African Art, NY on the bottom of the base. Provenance: The item came from the collection of Harold Rome, 1908-1993, an American composer and collector. Heddle pulleys belong to the culture of the Baule people, Ivory Coast, West Africa.
