DUTCH SCHOOL MONK OIL PAINTING AFTER GERRIT DOU
An antique Dutch school oil painting on canvas depicting a praying monk after the original painting by Gerrit Dou, Dutch, 1613 to 1675. Circa: the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Framed. Gerrit Dou, also known as Gerard Douw or Dow, was a Dutch Golden Age painter, whose small, highly polished paintings are typical of the Leiden fijnschilders. He specialised in genre scenes and is noted for his niche paintings and candlelit night-scenes with strong chiaroscuro. He was a student of Rembrandt. One of a kind artwork.
Dimensions: Framed 31 1/4 x 26 7/8 in. Canvas 28 x 22 in. All measurements are approximate.
