ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED JADE SNUFF BOTTLE AMULET
An antique Chinese hand carved Jade snuff or perfume bottle, a good luck amulet. The bottle is adorned with Ming Dynasty engraved motifs, a crane and a deer on one side, and a scene with a Confucianist master and his pupil on the other side. A symbol of longevity and grace in Chinese mythology, the word deer is pronounced lu. Cranes are an important motif in Chinese mythology. There are various myths involving cranes, and in Chinese mythology cranes are generally symbolically connected with the idea of longevity.
