ANTIQUE WEST AFRICAN TRADE CAST IRON KING MANILLA
An antique West African deep bronze patinated cast iron King Manilla that was used in everyday exchange in West Africa. Circa: the 15th century to the mid 20th century. The manilla is large curved bars in the shape of semi circle and is typically less curved than the smaller manillas, which resemble an open bracelet. King manillas were made from brass, copper, and iron. They likely served as a store of value rather than a regular medium of exchange. They may have been used in large transactions related to the transatlantic slave trade. Marked and inscribed on the ware. Mounted on a custom stand. Numbered, 5791, under the stand. Antique West African Eclectic Trade Wares, Currency Pieces For Collectors.
Dimensions: W 11 in. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Overall good vintage condition. Signs of age and wear. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
