The lot includes: First, a black and white photograph of Otto Schmidt, with an autograph and a handwritten dedication in Russian on the back, dated 17.6.1914. Otto Yulyevich Shmidt, better known as Otto Schmidt, was a Soviet scientist, mathematician, astronomer, geophysicist, statesman, and academician. Second, an autographed photo of Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel, a Russian writer, journalist, playwright, and literary translator. He is best known as the author of Red Cavalry and Odessa Stories and has been acclaimed as the greatest prose writer of Russian Jewry. Third, a portrait photograph of the French actress Sarah Bernhardt in dramatic garb, printed on a card stamped with the name and address of the studio, Aime Dupont, 574 Fifth Avenue, New York, inscribed by Bernhardt to R. Gatti and dated 1897. Fourth, a page with poems by Anna Akhmatova from the Triptych poem, signed by the poetess. Anna Akhmatova was one of the most significant Russian poets of the 20th century. She was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in 1965 and received the second-most nominations for the award the following year. Fifth, Dmitry Kabalevsky signed an anti-war speech with handwritten notes. Dmitry Borisovich Kabalevsky was a Soviet composer, conductor, pianist, and pedagogue of Russian gentry descent. He helped set up the Union of Soviet Composers in Moscow and remained one of its leading figures during his lifetime. Sixth, a handwritten letter from Vasily Rozanov to Pavel Pervov about his work on translating Aristotle's Metaphysics. Vasily Vasilievich Rozanov was one of the most controversial Russian writers and important philosophers in the symbolists' of the pre-revolutionary epoch.
