JAPANESE TAISHO KINKOZAN AWATA SATSUMA PORCELAIN VASE
An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery vase. Taisho era, 1912 to 1926. Cylindrical shape. The piece is hand-painted with flowers, butterflies, and human figures. The pictures are divided into two frieze levels. Gilt accents. There is a hieroglyphical signature on the bottom, Kinkozan. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Awata ware is a type of pottery that originated in the Awata district in Kyoto. Kinkozan was a well-known studio operating in Kyoto during the late Meiji and Taisho periods.
