SAINT MICHAEL ARCHANGEL ICON BY THEODORE JUREWICZ
An Orthodox icon showing Saint Michael the Archangel. Hand painted with egg tempera, gesso and levkas on the wood board. The Archangel is depicted crowned, riding across the skies on a winged red horse. A trumpet extends from his mouth. In one hand he holds a lance with which he strikes at the Devil. In the same hand is a cross and a censer swinging on a chain. In his other hand he holds the Gospels. Signed Fr. Theodore Jurewicz and titled The Archangel Michael trumpeting the Millenium to the back. Dated 1979. Fr. Theodore Jurewicz, Polish American, born 1953, is an Orthodox old rite priest and artist specializing in painting Byzantine icons and frescoes.
