RUSSIAN OIL PAINTING ATTR TO VINCENT STIEPEVICH
An oil on canvas painting attributed to Vincent G. Stiepevich, Russian, American, 1841 to 1910. The artwork depicts a young Flamenco guitar player sitting on a bench. Signed lower left. Housed in an antique gilt wood and gesso frame. Note: a Russian emigrant to New York in 1878, where he lived in Brooklyn, Vincent Stiepevich was noted for his realist painting style of portrait, figure and genre subjects, especially in Harem and Orientalist settings. Memberships in New York included the Artists Fund Society, the Brooklyn Art Association, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Boston Art Club, Art Institute of Chicago.
