RUSSIAN THEATRE COSTUME PAINTING BY MIKHAIL BOBYSHOV
Mikhail Bobyshov, Russian, Soviet era, 1885 to 1964, a collection of ten watercolor paintings on paper representing theatre costume designs for the play A Glass of Water by E. Scriba at the Bolshoi Drama Theater of Leningrad, 1940; and the play Yellow Jacket by Nikolai Vasilievich Smolich at the Leningrad State Maly Opera House. Each is inscribed in pencil in the upper part. Several are signed and dated 1926 in the lower part. Several are stamped, Publishing house Artist of the RSFSR, and dated 1961, on the backside. Mikhail Pavlovich Bobyshov was a Russian Soviet theater artist, painter, graphic artist and teacher, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People's Artist of the RSFSR. He began working as a theater artist in St. Petersburg in 1911. At the same time he drew for magazines. He designed plays for the Academic Maly Opera Theater, the Leningrad Comedy Theater, the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, the Moscow Stanislavsky Opera Theater and the Maly Theater, as well as theaters in Kyiv and Sofia. Russian Soviet era Theatre Costume and Set Designs, Wall Art, and Collectibles. One of a kind artwork.

Condition
Overall good vintage condition. Signs of wear and age. Has some stains and frayed edges. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
