BRITISH OIL PAINTING BY GEORGE CLARKSON STANFIELD
Attributed to George Clarkson Stanfield, British, 1828 to 1878, an oil painting on canvas depicting a landscape of a sea view, and a lady sitting at the seaside next to the waves on the rocks. Completed with an original gilded frame. A gold tone plate with the name of the artist, on the front. Provenance: Important private collection Italian family, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. George Stanfield is known for Marine and landscape painting. The English painter George Clarkson Stanfield studied at the Royal Academy of Arts and was also taught by his father, the landscape and marine painter Clarkson Frederick Stanfield. His favorite subjects were picturesque views of lakes and rivers in Italy, Switzerland, France and Germany as well as British coasts.
