Italian Neo-Classical Style Relief-Moulded Cobalt and Gilt Earthenware Jardinière - A 20th-century Italian earthenware jardinière of cylindrical form with a flared rim and a stepped, gilded base. The vessel is finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze, providing a striking background for a continuous frieze of mythological figures in high relief. The classical scene includes a reclining female figure with a putto, a centaur, and a dancing nymph in an Arcadian setting. The figures are finished in an off-white glaze with reddish-brown staining applied to the recesses to accentuate the relief moulding. Thick bands of gold gilding decorate both the rim and the foot rim. The interior is finished with a simple white glaze. The underside of the piece bears an impressed mark reading MADE IN ITALY- A89.
