Bidspirit auction | Early 20th Century Photochromic Amethyst

Early 20th Century Photochromic Amethyst Tinted Cut Lead Crystal Rose Bowl - A squat, bulbous rose bowl of heavy lead crystal construction, likely dating to the early 20th century. The vessel exhibits a distinct sun-purpled amethyst or lavender tint throughout, resulting from the reaction of manganese decolouriser to ultraviolet light. The exterior is elaborately decorated with deep wheel-cut geometric patterns, featuring large hobstars within circular panels separated by vertical bands of starbursts and fine cross-hatched diamond fields. The cutting is accented by fan motifs and deep mitred junctions. The bowl is finished with a short, polished rim and a heavy, thick base. No maker's marks, etched signatures, or factory labels are visible on the glass.
