Late 20th-century E. W. Forshaw Oil on Board Railway Painting Depicting Black Five Locomotive 44871 - A late 20th-century representational railway painting by E. W. Forshaw, executed in oil on board and dated May 1971. The composition depicts an LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 locomotive, popularly known as a 'Black Five', identified by the running number 44871 on its smoke box. The artist has rendered the locomotive in traditional black livery with red-painted buffers. The work is signed 'E. W. FORSHAW' and dated 'MAY 1971' in black paint to the lower left corner. The painting is housed in a simple, period-appropriate dark wood frame with a mitred construction. No other maker's marks or gallery labels are visible on the front of the work.
