Bidspirit auction | George V Hallmarked Sterling Silver
George V Hallmarked Sterling Silver and Cut Lead Crystal Ships Decanter - An early 20th-century cut lead crystal spirits decanter of squat, ship-style form, designed with a broad, stable base. The body is decorated with a traditional strawberry diamond cut pattern around the lower half, transitioning into vertical flutes on the shoulder and tapering neck. The underside of the base features a deep, multi-point radial starburst cut. The decanter is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver collar and a matching clear glass faceted pinnacle stopper. The silver collar bears a set of stamped hallmarks including the maker mark K.M.S in a rectangular shield with rounded corners, a lion passant standard mark, an anchor town mark for Birmingham, and the date letter u for 1919. The maker mark belongs to Kolman M. Shore, a silversmith active in Birmingham during the period.
