Bidspirit auction | Edwardian Cut Glass Spirit Decanter
Edwardian Cut Glass Spirit Decanter with Sheffield Sterling Silver Collar - An Edwardian-style cut lead crystal spirit decanter, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The vessel features a tapered conical body elaborately decorated with deep geometric mitre cuts, including cross-hatched diamonds and fan-cut motifs towards the base. The underside is finished with a radial star-cut design. The piece is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver collar which exhibits a flared rim. This silver mount bears four distinct stamps: a maker's mark in a lobed cartouche containing the initials RM, a crown mark for the Sheffield assay office, a lion passant indicating sterling silver purity, and a lowercase date letter in a shield-shaped cartouche. The decanter is completed by a facet-cut glass stopper with a pointed geometric finial. The stopper plug is hand-etched with the number 13, corresponding to a matching number traditionally found on the interior neck of the glass body.
