Bidspirit auction | Two 20th-Century Chinese Sancai-Style Glazed

Two 20th-Century Chinese Sancai-Style Glazed Earthenware Garden Stools - Two ceramic garden stools or pedestals produced in the Chinese Sancai (three-colour) tradition, likely dating to the 20th-century. Each stool is of rectangular form with a waisted neck and a flaring rim and base. The pieces are finished in a traditional palette of lead-based amber, green, and brown glazes. The decorative scheme features high-relief, moulded elephant-head handles at the shoulders, with their trunks forming functional loops. The central body of each stool contains four pierced or openwork panels; two depict a landscape scene with pine trees and bamboo, while the alternate sides feature smaller pierced motifs. The amber-glazed tops and bases contrast with the predominantly green central body. The underside of one stool reveals an unglazed, recessed base with a single character, the number 5, painted in brown. No other maker marks, signatures, or reign marks are visible on the pieces.
