Victorian Gothic Revival Oak Metamorphic Prie-Dieu Chair - A Victorian Gothic-influenced metamorphic prie-dieu or prayer chair, constructed from solid oak with a rich, natural grain finish. The piece features a slanted top book rest supported by two shaped brackets, positioned above a back panel with a decorative trefoil pierced cutout and two circular apertures. The chair is designed with a metamorphic folding mechanism, where the rectangular hand-woven cane seat panel is hinged to fold vertically into the frame. The base incorporates a fixed, low-profile kneeling platform upholstered in a green and beige tapestry-style fabric featuring a repeating foliate and scroll pattern. The construction utilizes exposed screw joinery and simple stretchers for stability. The underside of the kneeler and rear supports are unpolished, showing the raw timber and traditional joinery techniques. No maker's marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the wood or upholstery.
