Industrial T. Smith & Sons Painted Cast Iron Counter-Top Balance Scales - A set of industrial counter-top balance scales manufactured by T. Smith & Sons of Saltley, Birmingham. The scales are constructed from heavy-duty cast iron with a textured green paint finish, featuring a traditional beam mechanism, a manual locking lever at the front, and a central arched lifting handle. The assembly includes a large, removable galvanized or tin-plated steel scoop-form weighing pan and a separate circular cast iron platform for weights. The housing retains an oval brass maker's plate secured by two screws, featuring the relief-moulded name T. SMITH & SONS followed by BIRMINGHAM and LANCASTER, though the central text is heavily worn. The lot is accompanied by a composite set of circular cast iron weights, including pieces marked for W. & T. Avery Ltd. and various denominations including 8 OZ. No other maker's marks or registration numbers are visible on the frame.
