Four 20th-Century Carved Wood and Composite Elephant Figurines - A group of 20th-century decorative elephant figurines, comprising three hand-carved wooden examples and one caparisoned composite figure. The collection includes a large elephant carved from a dense, dark reddish-brown wood, possibly rosewood or mahogany, featuring horizontal ridges to the trunk and inset tusks of a cream-coloured material. Two medium-sized elephants are carved from polished brown wood, each with inset white tusks and light-coloured eyes. The fourth figure is a caparisoned elephant depicted in ceremonial regalia, including a textured blanket with a central floral motif; this piece is finished in matte black with subtle gold-toned highlights in the recesses of the trappings. These items are characteristic of 20th-century export decorative wares from South Asia. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on any of the figurines.
