Bidspirit auction | Three Mid-20th Century Capiz Shell
Three Mid-20th Century Capiz Shell Lotus Votive Holders and Frosted Glass Vase - A decorative collection comprising three items of table décor, including two lotus-form votive candle holders and a frosted glass vase. The two floral candle holders are constructed from translucent, iridescent capiz shell panels, likely from the windowpane oyster, each individual petal framed in a metal leading with a gold-toned finish. The larger holder features a multi-layered, imbricated petal arrangement resembling a blooming lotus or artichoke, while the smaller example follows a simpler bi-layer floral form. These items are characteristic of Southeast Asian export wares from the mid-to-late 20th century, typically produced in the Philippines. Accompanying the shell-work is a moulded glass vase in a soft salmon-pink hue, featuring a frosted satin finish and a fluted, organic body with an irregular, wavy rim mimicking a lily blossom. No maker's marks, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on any of the three objects.
