Bidspirit auction | Brian Dewbury Stoneware Ovoid Floor
Brian Dewbury Stoneware Ovoid Floor Vase - A large studio pottery stoneware floor vase of ovoid form, hand-thrown by the British potter Brian Dewbury likely late 20th-century. The vessel features a bulbous, tapering body that narrows into a slender neck, terminating in a distinctive flaring, funnel-shaped rim. The exterior is finished in a multi-toned glazing scheme, dominated by a heavily textured, high-gloss black Tenmoku-style glaze on the main body which exhibits significant surface pitting and undulations. This dark finish transitions through a reddish-brown band at the neck into a speckled, olive-green ash-style glaze at the rim. The interior of the rim is finished with a dark, glossy glaze. The underside of the base reveals a coarse-grained, buff-coloured stoneware clay body with prominent concentric throwing rings. The base is signed in black pigment with the handwritten name Brian Dewbury. No other maker marks or labels are present.
