20th Century Industrial Pine Shipping Crate - A 20th-century industrial shipping crate constructed from heavy solid pine planks with simple butt joints and robust braced supports at the top and bottom. The piece is designed for commercial transport, featuring thick timber walls and horizontal cleats to the interior base. The exterior side bears stencilled black lettering, including the characters 09294.N to the upper right, with subsequent lines including the words LION OU and fragments possibly reading LONDON. The top is reinforced with two substantial cross-braces, one of which contains a large circular aperture, likely for a functional handle or as part of a modular racking system. The wood displays a naturally aged, darkened patina with prominent grain patterns and iron nail head oxidisation throughout. No maker marks or manufacturer labels are visible.
