EGYPTIAN WOOD SARCOPHAGUS MASK WITH BRONZE EYES
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC.
A sarcophagus mask carved from finely-grained cedar wood. The almond-shaped eyes are presented with an inlaid white stone sclera and blue pupils within bronze frames, a broad nose with flared nostrils, full lips with slightly indented corners, a rounded chin, and smooth cheeks, all beneath a wide headdress that sits low on the forehead. These masks were stylised and idealised portraits of the deceased and served an important role in Egyptian funerary rituals. Mounted on a custom-made stand; some restoration. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
Size: 290mm x 230mm; Weight: 2kg
