EGYPTIAN CEREMONIAL BRONZE KHOPESH SWORD
Middle Kingdom, Second Intermediate Period, Ca. 1900 - 1600 BC.
An extremely large and heavy khopesh sword of early type, complete with a wooden handle and golden pommel. Judging by its size, weight, and gold decoration, it was likely used for ceremonial purposes. This is the earliest type of khopesh sword, which is different from the more common khopesh swords from the New Kingdom period. This piece comes with a full report from an independent specialist Robertas Daubaras.
Size: 737mm x 495mm; Weight: 1.5Kg
Provenance: Property of a European collector; formerly with an art gallery, London; previously in a private British collection; Ex. Hans Blaser collection, Switzerland, acquired in the 1970s.
