GNATHIAN BLACK-GLAZED POTTERY OINOCHOE
Ca. 340 - 320 BC.
An Apulian oinochoe featuring an elongated body, complemented by a strap handle and a distinctive trefoil spout. The Gnathian style of blackware pottery originated in the ancient Greek colony of Gnathia in Apulia, Southern Italy, during the Hellenistic period. This distinctive technique involved the combination of black glaze with the application of polychrome pigments, creating intricate and detailed decorative motifs.
