Ca. 400 - 300 BC.A beautiful gold hairpin of a round-section shank that is tapered at one end and finished with a pear-shaped terminal, which is decorated with fine scrollwork and blue stone inserts. In the Hellenistic world, hairpins were a symbol of status and served both functional and decorative purposes. Women used hairpins to secure their hair in intricate hairstyles that were fashionable at the time.
