KASHAN PIERCED WHITE WARE POTTERY BOWL
Ca. Early 13th century AD.A pottery bowl with a truncated conical form, elevated foot, and flaring sides combine to create an aesthetically pleasing silhouette that reflects the artistic sensibilities of the region. One of the defining features of this bowl is its pierced walls around the mid-section, which demonstrate the technical mastery of the potters. The bowl is adorned with a glaze that exhibits a captivating cracking effect. The cracked glaze further accentuates the bowl's unique aesthetic charm. While the majority of the bowl is covered with a glazed surface, the foot remains unglazed, providing a visual and tactile contrast. This intentional design choice not only adds textural interest but also reveals the natural color and texture of the clay, emphasizing the organic nature of the material.Cf. Sotheby's, Islamic Works of Art, London, 5 October 2011, Lot 213.Size: 75mm x 168mm ; Weight: 240gProvenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
