ISLAMIC BOWL WITH CALLIGRAPHY
Seljuk, Ca. AD 1200.A deep bowl boasting a truncated cone profile that gracefully rests on a concave foot, while the body rises to a wide opening that invites the viewer to explore its intricate details. Perhaps the most striking feature of this exceptional work is the register of calligraphy that adorns the interior, running just below the rim. The delicate and precise calligraphic script adds a layer of elegance and sophistication to this already impressive piece. These bowls were often used for serving food and drink, and their distinctive shape made them ideal vessels for mixing ingredients or holding larger quantities of liquid. The exquisite craftsmanship displayed in the present work attests to the great skill of Seljuk crafters, who were renowned for their ability to create objects of beauty and utility.Size: L:120mm / W:230mm ; 1.15KgProperty of a London Islamic art specialist collector; previously in a collection formed since the 1980s.
