ROMAN GOLD RING WITH ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Ca. 100 BC - AD 200An incredible Roman inlaid gold ring depicting Alexander the Great. The plain gold hoop is flat on the interior, and slightly rounded on the exterior, expanding towards the flat oval bezel. The bezel houses a glass gem. There is a depiction in gold of Alexander the Great’s head, facing to the right, within the gem. Rings like this, featuring inlaid silhouette intaglios are quite rare. It is possible that they were produced by a single workshop, based on their distinctive style. For similar see: F.
