GROUP OF FIVE FRAGMENTS OF PAPYRUS WITH DEMOTIC INSCRIPTIONS
Ca. 664 - 30 BC A group of five papyrus fragments with Demotic inscriptions in black ink. Each piece is part of a slender scroll and displays several rows of legible Demotic realised with different types of brushes. Papyrus was the most important writing material in the Classical and Mediterranean world for centuries. It was used to replace clay tablets. Size: 200mm x 155mm; Weight: 160g Provenance: From the private collection of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old British Collection, formed in the 1990s.
