Ca. 350 - 300 BCAn Apulian xenon ware wheel-thrown Rython with salmon-hued palmettes and olive leaves over a rich, lustrous black glaze. The vessel is characterised by a long foot, a tall body with a flared rim, and a pair of volutes applied strap foot. Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, and the style is distinguished by added red decoration over black glaze.Size: 215mm x 120mm; Weight: 585gProvenance: Property of a central London gallery, previously acquired on the Dutch art market; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; Hugo Lievens, Brussels 1982.
