ETRUSCAN MARBLE HEAD OF A NOBLEMAN
Ca. 400 - 200 BCAn Etruscan carved marble head of a nobleman, depicted frontally with slightly curly hair and a short beard. His face has full lips, a large nose, almond-shaped eyes, and a mouth similar to the Greek "Archaic Smile, " which has been interpreted by art historians to mean that the subject is intended to appear alive and peaceful. This votive figure may have been left as an offering at a tomb or temple. This example is excellent, with wonderfully preserved details.
