LARGE ROMAN BRONZE APPLIQUE THEATRE MASK SHAPED
Ca. AD 100 - 300An Ancient Roman bronze theatre mask appliqué with a hollow back and exaggerated facial features with an open mouth. The appliqué was pierced centrally at the top. The diadem of the mask shows a pattern with moons that are most likely linked to the cult of Isis. This appliqué would have been decoratively suspended, perhaps from a piece of furniture.Size: 70mm x 55mm; Weight: 135gProvenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the Belgian art market in the 1990s.
