ROMAN GOLD RING DEPICTING EMPEROR LICINIUS AND INSCRIPTION
Ca. AD 300.A Roman gold ring with an oval bezel engraved with an image of Roman Emperor Licinius, a colleague and rival to Constantine the Great. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with moulded volutes. This ring most likely belonged to a supporter of Licinius or perhaps a high-ranking member of his army.Size: D:18.14mm / US: 8 / UK: P 1/2; Weight: 11.8gProvenance: Property of a London Ancient art collector, formerly in a Mayfair private collection of Mr. P. S., formerly acquired on the UK art market since the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
