CHINESE JIAN TEABOWL
Southern period, Song Dynasty, Ca. AD 960 - 1279.A Jian tea bowl with hare’s fur glaze. The glaze is at its lightest at the rim, slowly coating the bowl, a thick layer stopping right above the bare base. Such type of tea bowls were closely related to Song dynasty tea culture. It was the fashion of the time to prepare tea by whisking powdered tea leaves, producing a light-coloured froth that stands out against this type of thick brown glazes.
